Our History

1994 to present day.

Introduction of the total restructure of every senior league in Wales at a national level, with the opportunity for all teams to reach the very top flight, plus the long awaited introduction of professionalism into the game, has brought with it another wave of interest and expectancy. In Ystalyfera and true to tradition the new structure brought new fortune with our ‘Millennium’ side. A promotion, a Championship and the elusive Swansea Valley Cup were won in the first five years. Off the field issues and challenges relating to professionalism, the ever present and often quite desperate financial position, and the challenge of much more wider interests were (and are still being) met with a dedicated resolve from officials, Committee and players alike. Deserved promotion into Division One was won in traditional Ystalyfera style, fast free-flowing rugby from local friends, family and neighbours – all a pure delight to watch and enjoy. Long may this continue - 'Fera yw y gore........................
