1950 to 1974.
This was the West Wales Championship era. Alas Post WW2 did not bring any fortune to the game of Rugby Union in Wales, with the enthusiastic upsurge in English football and the fateful professional Rugby League.
All the local Rugby Union sides suffered from both a lack of interest and teams coming close to losing their grounds and at worst extinction. Ystalyfera in its turn suffered on the playing field and throughout the West Wales Championship era were permanently fixed at the ‘wrong end’ of the table, finishing bottom of the league on eight occasions between the period 1950 to 1974. Very close to reverting to a district side at the end of this period, the club became invigorated by an eager younger element in the village and the prospects of the restructured West Wales Sections....
