Crymych home...

Crymych RFC is, by Welsh rugby union standards, a very young rugby club. Formed in 1984 out of the belief that the number of players leaving the locality, to join neighbouring clubs such as Cardigan, Narberth and Whitland, would be better served by a local team. The first match was played against a Whitland XV in September 1984, and soon former residents were returning to play for the club.

The club was admitted to the Welsh Rugby Union in 1995, being elected to the National League - Division Eight West 'A'. Their first encounter against Ystalyfera was an early pre-season friendly fixture at Ynysydarren in 1996-97, which Crymych won narrowly 17-23. Steady progress saw Crymych finish Champions of Division Five West in 2003, when a new clubhouse was opened. Further promotions in 2008, 2011 and 2013 lifted Crymych to Division One West.

On 28th March in season 2017-18 ‘Fera met Crymych again at ‘Parc Lloyd Thomas’ in the Welsh National Plate 5th Round (Quarter Final). Ystalyfera won 28-17. A further friendly took place at Ynysydarren in 2019-20 at the first game of the season.  ‘Fera won 17-7 with Trys scored by Jonathan Bayliss, Luc Caines and Joss Jarrett plus a conversion by Steffan Castle.

Crymych remained within Division One for ten consecutive years until 2022-23 when they won promotion into Championship West. Last season Crymych completed an impressive “Double” over Ystalyfera, and a better showing is hoped from the ‘Fera this time.
