Next Dunvant

Dunvant Rugby Club have been an important part of Community life in the surrounding areas of Swansea West, ever since it's foundation in 1887. Extremely proud of being the first village club to reach the highest echelons of Welsh Rugby (Division One - now known as the Premiership), using mainly home-grown talent, all before our beloved game turned professional. Playing much of their early rugby in the local parks, Dunvant decided in 1969 to buy 13 acres of a local field known as "Albert's Bottom", today known as "Broadacre".

The Club joined the West Wales Rugby Union Section E in 1978/79, and in only 9 years rose to Section A, being Championship winners in 1990. With the formation of Heineken League Rugby in 1990/91, Dunvant entered Division Two and won it at the first attempt. Two seasons later, Dunvant won 21 out of 22 games to enter the topflight Division One for the 1993/94 season. There they played the giants of Llanelli, Swansea, Cardiff etc. Across their seasons in Division One they beat them all except Cardiff (a 27-27 draw) and Llanelli. An amazing journey, -through Eight Divisions of rugby in only 15 years. Dunvant also played international games against Japan in 1993 (Lost 23-24) and Romania in 1999 (Lost 10-29).

During this period Dunvant played Ystalyfera twice in the West Wales Cup – at Ynysydarren in 1996-97, and Broadacre in 1997-98. Both these games stand as the ‘Fera record defeats in the competition (5-60 and 17-63 respectively). In 1999-00, Dunvant lost in the West Wales Cup Final to Llandovery 27-39. From 2001-02, Dunvant gradually slipped down the League structure into Division Three West. Not remaining there long, they won promotion in season 2011-12, and met Ystalyfera in 2014-15, Division One West Central. The results again fared badly for the ‘Fera, with a 11-27 home defeat and the biggest away National League defeat to date 15-83. Next season they finished Champions Entering the Championship for the first time in 2016-17, only to be immediately relegated. Not put off, a comeback was achieved in 2022-23, with ‘a second-place promotion into Championship West.
