Ystalyfera have began the new season with two home games at Ynysydarren, introducing a number of new faces into the side that head coach Gareth James has brought together, ready for the hard and challenging WRU (Admiral) Championship forthcoming fixtures. These, blending with our known experienced players, will hopefully and expectantly retain the respect being earned within the second level of senior Club Rugby in Wales.

Penallta was a hard fought pre-season friendly, the 'Fera deservedly getting a 15-12 win. Cross Keys from Dragons country, provided a well contested competition and in the end their strength up front proved to be Ystalyfera's downfall, they clinching a bonus point win in added on time, denying the 'Fera a bonus point for ourselves. The standard of the game was high, and a warm welcome and response was much appreciated in the Club afterwards.

Next week it is the forecasted hardest fixture of everybody's season away to the much vaunted Pontypool. This is one for Ystalyfera to remember the experience, and go with the flow.
