Fixture

Following the posponed fixture versus Trebanos the previous week, Ystalyfera entertained Cardiff Met., for our first Championship Plate game at Ynysydarren.

Conditions were very good and both sides played a fast and well contested fixture. The first half saw the 'Fera playing down towards the Swansea end facing the sun, and in the first quarter hour both OutsideHalves exchanged penalty kicks . Sam Brown the visitors No10 gave the Cardiff side the lead in the 32nd minute 3 - 6, and in first half added time, Met. winger Liam Antrobus crossed over for the first Try which was unconverted.

The second period remaIned as lively as the first, 'Fera wing Luc Caines getting the first home Try in the 45th minute - this was converted by Gareth Jamo - Score 10 - 11. Both sides continued to press hard and the second visitor Try came in the 54th minute, touched down by Met. centre Alex Young, this was converted by Sam Brown - score 10 - 18. Ystalyfera were certainly not giving up and from this point raised their efforts. The second home Try (and his first for the club), was achieved in the 62nd minute by Centre Tomos Powell (son of 'Fera legend Wayne Powell), and the third Try in the 76th minute by the prolific No8 Steffan (saus) Jones - this his 90th Try for the Club. Either side of these touchdowns, 'Fera record points scorer Gareth James kicked two conversions and two penalties to leave a final score of Ystalyfera 30 - 18 Cardiff Met.

Next week Ystalyfera travel to Bedwas for our second Championship Plate Group fixture, they having lost 12 - 21 at current plate group leaders Trebanos.
