Maesteg 48 – 18 Ystalyfera.
Maesteg fielded a strong side for this re-arranged fixture, and quickly established a 10 point lead at their ‘Old Parish’ ground. Conditions were dry with a slight ‘cold’ wind. This favoured a more open running game and that’s how things progressed. Outside half Damian James opened up the scoring for Ystalyfera with a well taken penalty. Maesteg however were able to capitalise effectively on ‘Fera mistakes and ran in a further two Trys in the first half. Ystalyfera did not give up,and wing Josh Jarrett ran in a fine Try which was not converted. Maesteg, urged on by a sizable home crowd kept up the pressure earning a 24 – 8 half time lead.
Second half started much as the previous had ended, and Maesteg continued to outwit the Ystalyfera effort across the park, getting another three Trys before Full back Steffan Castle got a second Try for the visitors. Ystalyfera were now restricted in attempting to get a four-Try bonus point which left the game quite open. A final seventh Try for Maesteg was followed right at the end, by a fine driving effort from ‘Fera substitute Dan White getting the third Try, ending the game 48 - 18 to Maesteg.
Penalty count was;
9 committed by Maesteg and 8 by Ystalyfera.
Fera breakdown was 2 given for offside, 2 for holding ball/player, 1 turning the scrum, 1 diving over the top, 1 dangerous tackle and 1 for verbal abuse.
